FERTILITY AFTER 35 YEARS

Dr. Juan Arturo Morales Aguirre

WHAT CHANGES OCCUR AND HOW TO IMPROVE THE CHANCES OF PREGNANCY

Fertility is one of the most important issues in the lives of women who want to be mothers. As they age, women experience hormonal and physical changes that can affect their ability to conceive. Fertility gradually declines after the age of 35 and after the age of 40, the chance of conceiving naturally decreases even more. However, there are steps that can be taken to improve the chances of pregnancy.

  • CHANGES IN FERTILITY AFTER AGE 35

From the age of 35, the number and quality of the eggs begin

to decrease. At 40, most women have less than 5% of their high-quality eggs remaining. Also, after the age of 35, there is an increased risk of ovulatory disorders, such as irregular ovulation or lack of ovulation. The risk of miscarriage also increases after the age of 35.

These changes may be the result of decreased hormone levels in a woman's body. In particular, the decrease in follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) can affect the quality and quantity of the eggs produced. Another factor that can affect fertility is decreased production of cervical mucus, which can make it more difficult for sperm to reach the egg.

  • IMPROVEMENTS TO INCREASE FERTILITY AFTER 35 YEARS OLD

Although fertility declines with age, there are steps that can be taken to improve the chances of pregnancy. Here are some of the most effective:

  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle: Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and avoiding harmful habits such as smoking and alcohol consumption can improve reproductive health and increase the chances of pregnancy.

  • Monitoring the menstrual cycle: Ovulation monitoring can help identify the most fertile days of the cycle and increase the chances of conceiving.

  • Monitor reproductive health: It is important to have regular gynecological examinations to detect any problems that may affect fertility.

  • Consider in vitro fertilization (IVF): IVF may be an option if other treatments have been unsuccessful.

  • Do not delay the search for pregnancy: If a woman wants to have children, she should not wait too long to start looking. If you are having difficulty conceiving, the sooner you start seeking help, the better.

  • Consider egg freezing: If a woman knows she wants to have children in the future, but is not ready to do so now, she may consider egg freezing. This may be an option to preserve fertility and increase the chances of pregnancy later.

Fertility gradually declines after age 35, but there are steps you can take to improve your chances of pregnancy. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, monitoring the menstrual cycle, controlling reproductive health, considering IVF and not delaying the search for pregnancy are some of the most effective measures.
